Documents you need to prepare

  • Application form please choose the option "(2) Red-White-Red – Card plus"

  • Passport, valid for a minimum of 3.5 years, and with copy
    Your residence permit will otherwise only be valid until the expiry date of your passport.
  • One EU passport sized photo, not older than 6 months (with invoice)
  • Proof of accommodation in Austria
    e.g., registration confirmation ("Meldebestätigung"), rental contract, last 3 rental payments
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    e.g., copy of your e-card
  • Proof of sufficient financial means
    e.g., copies of salary slips, savings account
  • Copy of the confirmation of the family allowance ("Familienbeihilfe"), if applicable

  • Copy of the last school report ("Schulzeugnis") and a confirmation of school attendance ("Schulbesuchsbestätigung")
    if the applicant is a minor attending school
  • KSV Excerpt ("KSV-Auszug") of you and your husband/wife/registered partner (if applicable) - necessary only if requested by the authority.

  • Proof of German skills

    • ÖIF Integration Certificate A2 if   
      1. you currently hold a Blue Card or a Settlement Permit ("Niederlassungsbewilligung") and after two years of residency in Austria apply for a Red-White-Red – Card Plus with a validity of three years
        OR
      2. you currently hold a Red-White-Red – Card Plus with a validity of two years and now apply for a Red-White-Red – Card Plus with a validity of three years.

        Attention!
        In this particular case, you will have to pass the so-called Integration Exam ("Integrationsprüfung") which includes a German exam on an A2 level as well as an "integration exam". It is important that you pass both parts of the exam. You can find German clases, study material, examination dates as well as other information on the website of ÖIFÖIF ().
    • NO Integration Certificate A2 is necessary if
      1. you have held a Red-White-Red – Card for the past two years and apply now for a Red-White-Red – Card Plus with a validity of 3 years,
      2. you present proof of general university entrance qualification or completed a vocational secondary school or completed a university degree at a recognized university abroad. Instead of the Integration Certificate A2, the corresponding proof is presented to the immigration authority. Depending on the country of issue verificationverification () may be necessary. It is important that the degree was awarded by a recognized educational institution and that the diploma or proof of general university entrance qualification or the vocational secondary school leaving certificate was issued in German or English or is translated by a court-certified translator.
      3. you already hold an Integration Certificate A2 or B1 and have provided it to the authority in a prior application process,
      4. you have graduated from an Austrian university,
      5. you have finished high school in Austria ("Matura") and are entitled to attend university ("allgemeine Universitätsreife"),
      6. the applicant is under the age of 14 years,
      7. the applicant is 14 to 18 years old and attending school in Austria, having had a positive German grade in the last school report.

Please note!
Integration Certificates A2 used for extension processes must not be older than two years!
