Where can one apply for a Residence Card?
The application for a Residence Card card must be submitted in person to the correct branch of the Austrian Immigration and Residence Authority in Austria, the location of which depends on your place of residence. Documents to be prepared
In order to obtain the Residence Card ("Aufenthaltskarte"), one needs to submit a variety of documents.
- Valid Passport
- One EU passport sized photo, not older than 6 months (with invoice)
- Application form
- Birth certificate, if applicable
Children of EU/EEA/Swiss nationals need to submit birth certificates as proof of family relationship. - Marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate, if applicable
Spouses and civil partners of EU/EEA/Swiss nationals need to submit these certificates as proof of family relationship. - Residence registration ("Meldezettel")
- Registration Certificate (“Anmeldebescheinigung”) of the EU/EEA/Swiss national in the family
- Passport copy of the EU/EEA/Swiss national in the family
- Proof of health insurance coverage in Austria
In many cases, family members can be included with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (Österreichische Gesundheitskasse - ÖGK) via co-insurance. - Proof of sufficient means of subsistence
