As a family member of a third-country national with a Red-White-Red – Card, an EU Blue Card, a Settlement Permit Researcher, a Red-White-Red – Card Plus and a Long-term Resident EU permit, the first Red-White-Red – Card Plus is valid for up to two years.

Who is considered a family member?

Family members in this scenario are only:

  • wives and husbands
  • civil partners (“eingetragene Partnerinnen/eingetragene Partner”)
  • minor children.

All other family members (e.g., children over the age of 18) cannot receive this residence permit and have to demonstrate that they themselves have a purpose for staying in Austria, for example, if they study at an Austrian university or work for a company in Austria.

Where does one apply for a Red-White-Red – Card Plus?

Depending on factors such as citizenship, current country of residence, residence and joint or separate family immigration, the application for the Red-White-Red – Card Plus must either be submitted to the Austrian Embassy/Consulate in the country of residence or can be submitted to the correct branch of the Austrian Immigration and Residence Authority in Austria, the location of which depends on the (future) Austrian place of residence.
